Christians have been persecuted since the time of Christ. In many countries today, it is still extremely dangerous to attend church and to be a Christian. Christians are bombed, dismembered, raped, crucified, and shot, but they gather for worship anyway, accepting the risk and God’s will in their lives. They are willing to die (a real and probable threat) for their faith.
Here we are in the West Christians and are afraid to gather for worship because of a small chance we might catch a virus and and even smaller chance we might die from it. Many Christians who are wanting to go to church during this time, are being called foolish by other Christians for their faith and need to commune with God. Lord have mercy. Let us be fools for Christ.(more…)
Forgiveness… granting it is liberation, withholding it–bondage. Asking for forgiveness is not weakness, but strength. There is such a paradox in the Christian life, but not just for the Christian, for all of humanity. Through the emptying of self, we can be the most filled and fulfilled.(more…)
It’s not too difficult a thing to encourage our children to pray, especially if we lead by example, but as they grow it’s a wonderful thing to teach them how to pray just as Christ taught us how to pray with the Lord’s prayer. Structure is very beneficial to all of us, particularly for the less mature Christian who many not have words come easily or who may be easily distracted in prayer or devotional time. Even for the mature Christian, structured prayers and psalms are great tools to be able to use in times of trouble, joy, and life in general.(more…)
The first forty days after a new baby is born are sacred days. At times they seem long, but in retrospect, the entire first year of a new baby’s life just seem to fly right by. The first forty days are no exception. In fact, they are so much like a wedding. There is so much anticipation for the wedding itself but once it arrives it seems to be over just as quick as it all started, and the bride and groom are considered lucky if they get a chance to eat some food. The first six weeks of motherhood are so similar.(more…)
